My expierience in Thailand.
Chiang Mai – my city for almost 5 years. It was the capital of the independent Lanna Kingdom. That’s why every Friday we were wearing “Lanna style dress”. There you can find a lot of Buddhist temples and street food everywhere. The temple complex of War Phra That Doi Suthep is one of Thailand’s most famous pilgrimage sites. The temple lies at an elevation of 1,073 m. and like me, you can run up to the top through the path inside the forest. Shopping in Chiang Mai covers everything that you need from night markets with locally handmade crafts to farmers’ markets with food and drink, to modern shopping centres. I recommend Sunday Walking Street Market where you will find everything. The beauty of this town is the “magic” atmosphere. It is difficult to explain, you have to be there. You can find amazing coffee shops between nowhere, beautiful hikes next to the city, fruits and vegetables everywhere (I miss this so much in Norway!) and smiling people on your way.
Koh Yao Noi (or Koh Yao Yai) – if a big island like Phuket is not your “cup of tea” then you can take the ferry and go to one of these two small islands. There is not so much to do but there you can switch off your battery and just rest!
Chiang Dao/Pai – this two little town in the north of Thailand is a “must-see”. Staying in Chiang Mai is ideal for exploring more of north Thailand and to travel on to the Mae Hong Son loop (both cities are on the way). This 600 km loop is often described as one of the most scenic routes in Thailand. I promise you will not regret it!
Chiang Rai – there is Wat Rong Khun better known as the White Temple. The building has an extraordinary architecture with many unique details and bright white colour.
Bangkok – of course, if you visit Thailand you have to visit Bangkok! Nothing to say, just go and explore.
